November at Post & Pour: Gratitude in Motion
Dear Neighbors and Friends,
We need to talk about $170. That's the amount a group of people sent overseas in 1847. Now, $170 today isn't life-changing, but in 1847, it was a massive, communal sacrifice.
And who was giving this money?
It was a people who had just lost nearly everything. Their homes, their people, their land. They had survived a forced march, a true tragedy. Their hands, more than anyone’s, had every reason to be closed in bitterness or focused purely on survival.
And yet, when they heard about strangers starving across a vast ocean, trapped in a devastating famine, they took what little they had and sent that $170 overseas.
A profound gift from one wounded people to another. No fanfare. No politics. Just compassion in motion.
The people making that sacrifice? They were the Choctaw Nation, fresh from the Trail of Tears. The strangers they saved? They were the Irish, suffering through the Great Famine.
More than a century later, when Native communities suffered during COVID, the people in Ireland remembered. They raised millions in return, a gesture of gratitude that had traveled 4,000 miles and 178 years.
Because true gratitude doesn’t stand still. It moves.
Honoring Those Who Served
This month, we pause to remember: those who’ve served, those who’ve sacrificed, and those who quietly keep gratitude alive in our community.
To our veterans, and to all who have given more than we know, we see you. Thank you for showing us that freedom and gratitude are things we must keep in motion.
Gratitude Moving Through Post & Pour
At Post & Pour, we simply try to be a place where that motion happens — where neighbors gather, give, remember, and raise a glass together.

And the Rest of the Story...
The Choctaw gave from their pain. The Irish gave back from their gratitude.
The Choctaw word for that selfless act is 'iyyikowa' – it means serving those in need.
This principle is the same one lived out by our veterans, those who gave of themselves so freely for the well-being of our community and our nation.
And now it’s our turn, to live out the spirit of iyyikowa and keep that kindness moving, in our own small ways. Here are two concrete ways we can move with gratitude this month:
Sumner-Bonney Lake Community Toybox
Help bring holiday magic to every child. We are accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys and gift cards for local kids (ages 0–18). Look for the Community Toybox drop-off box right inside Post & Pour! (We are collecting donations through November 30th.) Or buy online through their wishlist.
Thanksgiving Meal Drive (Community Big Give)
Join the effort to provide over 1,500 Thanksgiving meals to local families! Your online donation helps ensure every neighbor gets to share a delicious holiday feast. This is direct, compassionate giving in action, right here in our community.
Here’s to a month of remembering, giving, and gathering.
Because when gratitude moves through us… the story never really ends.
